Grosse Pointe War Memorial It's hard to describe the role the War Memorial plays in
our community because it is so many things to so many people. The beautiful War Memorial Center is the former mansion of the Russell A. Alger family. With its subsequently added ballroom and theater overlooking Lake
St. Clair, the center is a community attraction the rivals the many private clubs in the area. Open to all residents, the War Memorial offers art classes and
exhibits, lectures, concerts, plays, ballet and social dancing instruction, and children's theater, as well as membership in along list of special-interest clubs whose focus is either cultural,
informative or just plain fun. In addition, the summer concert series is held on the beautiful grounds on the shores of Lake St.
Clair. The War Memorial sponsors several annual events, and local groups meet at the facility.Annual Events Summer Garden Tour

Antique & Contemporary Art Tile Fair A One-Day Festival of Ceramic Tiles Sponsored by Pewabic
Pottery. Tile makers, tile artists, dealers and collectors from around the country display and sell a large selection of ceramic art tiles. Historic and fine handcrafted contemporary tiles are
available at this one-day only indoor event. Grosse Pointe Festival of the Arts
150 artists and craftsmen in painting sculpture, graphics, photography, metalwork, pottery, weaving, jewelry, enamels, glass, woodwork and original stitchery. There is specially
selected artwork from Grosse Pointe North and South High Schools and University-Liggett students. Enjoy a carillon concert, a magician, a wandering minstrel, a harpist and
performances by Grosse Pointe Theatre and The Michigan Banjoes. There are children's hands-on art booths, storytelling, clowns, balloons, tattoo artist and much more! War Memorial Groups Several area special interest groups meet at the War Memorial. Grosse Pointe Ski Club
For Grosse Pointe residents over 21 and their friends. Following the ski season, the club sponsors summer sports events and
picnics. All singles and couples who enjoy sports and socializing are welcome. Special introductory membership dues for off-season months, May - August are $8.00 singles and $10.00 couples. Summer Events

Sanctioned novice games, Friday nights - 7:00 p.m. Restricted to less experienced players, novice games provide all the enjoyment of regular games with less stress. A short lesson
will precede the game. A written analysis of an interesting and instructive hand from the previous week's game will be provided. $5.00 per session includes coffee and snacks. Grosse Point Chess Club Tuesdays, 7:30 - 11:00 p.m. Chess sets and boards are provided for informal games,
tournaments, and inter-club teams. New members are welcome. $10.00 per year for membership. Grosse Pointe Chamber Music
